The Northern Tuli Game Reserve is located in the easternmost corner of Botswana, close to the Mapungubwe World Heritage Site in South Africa. Tuli makes a great getaway destination, combines well with a trip to Mapungubwe or the Kruger National Park and is also a natural staging post for guests travelling between South Africa, Botswana and beyond.
Each day brings a new adventure as Tuli offers a truly authentic wildlife experience, whether you have opted for a game drive or bush walk with our exceptional guides or chosen to spend some time in one of our hides tucked away in the bush.
Bush walks give a real opportunity to experience Africa at ground level, allowing you to take in the sounds, smells and sights of the bush. The slower pace also enables your guide to explain fascinating facts such as the traditional medicinal use of plants, the inner workings of a termite mound and to relate folk tales about the different birds and animals you may come across.
The Northern Tuli Game Reserve has been identified as an Important Bird Area and is home to a large number of resident as well as migrant birds, with 350 different species identified in the area. Tuli Safari Lodge is an active member of Birdlife Botswana.
Birding enthusiasts staying at Tuli Safari Lodge can make use of our two hides situated in close proximity to the lodge, as well as enjoying two guided game activities (bush walks and/or game drives) each day.
Birders can enjoy the short walking trail through the lodge which passes through varied habitats. A few common bird sightings on the walk include: Burchell’s Sandgrouse, Namaqua Dove, Meyer’s Parrot, African Cuckoo, Jacobin and Levaillant’s Cuckoo, Great Spotted Cuckoo, European Roller, Purple Roller, Grey-headed Kingfisher, Yellow-billed Stork and Saddle-billed Stork. Our resident woodland kingfisher also likes to dip its beak in the pool on regular occasions!
